Open Championship 2014.
August 2014
The Open Championship got underway on Friday the 16th of August following the Life Members tournament. The championship competition for the Harris Tweed Jacket is spread over 1 ½ days in order to deal with demand for places in all 120 people took part. The past few years the weather has always created various challenges this year was no exception.
Friday afternoon was fine however the Saturday morning rain and strong winds.
Results: And MacDonald, Stornoway won the Jacket with a scratch score of 64 equalling the course record. Last year’s winner David Black was runner up with a gross score of 70.The men’s handicap winner was our own Billy Fraser with a net 62.Runner with a very close 63.Was Roddy Morrison Scalpay. Roddy’s going out nine
score of 38 was on target to create a big threat to Billy. The Archie Macleod Memorial Trophy which open to local players only was won by Billy Fraser a good weekends work for Billy. Runner up was Domnall Angie Morrison with a net 67,Chris Sutton finished in third place with 68.The Ladies jacket was won by Susanne Graham,North Berwick with a scratch score of 83.In second place was Cathy Clark from Aberdeen Ladies. Ladies Handicap tournament was won by Maureen Robertson Dalmahoy with a net 75.Runner up Jane Nicholson Stornoway.
The whole weekend was once again a great success and our thanks go to all involved in the running of this very popular event in the Harris Golf Club’s calendar.
